World leaders in the electronics industry will gather in the country to come up with resolutions on the industry’s new roles and directions in the future to help shape agendas.

Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc. (SEIPI) president Ernesto Santiago announced this as the Philippines, through SEIPI, will host the four-day 17th World Electronics Forum at the Mactan Shangri-la Island Resort in Cebu, Philippines from April 18 to 21.

WEF is a voluntary gathering of CEOs and Directors of electronics industry organizations worldwide.

Founded in 1995, WEF meets annually to discuss major topics of common interest, exchange information on services and data, and strengthen relations between various electronics industry organizations.

Previous WEF meetings were hosted by USA, China, Japan, UK, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Israel, India, among others.

“The Philippines was elected during the 16th WEF held in USA last January 2011 to host the 17th WEF meeting for year 2012, with SEIPI as the host organization. Over 200 delegates from various foreign electronics industry organizations worldwide including CEOs, Presidents, and executives of SEIPI members are expected to attend the meeting," Santiago said.

During the WEF meeting, Santiago said the delegates are expected to come up with discussions and resolutions on the new roles and directions WEF has to undertake in the next coming years to make it a more effective and beneficial industry platform of the electronics industry that could help shape country, regional and global agendas.

Its business and technology forum also aims to be an exchange of information on the latest developments, challenges and changes happening in the electronics environment so as to know how the industry could adopt, align or move in-sync with global technology vectors.

WEF speakers will talk on the recent business and technology trends as presented during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held at Las Vegas in January 2012; the state of electronics and software in Israel; talk of the President of Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) on standards and safety, and many other interesting topics namely: energy efficiency; environment; business trends; and international trade policies that affects electronics business.

"The Philippine semiconductor and electronics industry is gearing up for a snap back and is expecting a strong recovery this year. Present industry guidance for the year is a projected industry growth of 10 to 15 percent," Santiago said.

SEIPI chairman and TI Philippines President Bing Viera said "This important international gathering of electronics industry leaders will help in building the confidence of investors in the Philippines as a competitive and conducive environment for electronics business."

"Electronics is one of the priority industries of the government and WEF could also be a good venue for the government to present its plans and programs in moving the country’s economy forward –from infrastructure development to curbing corruption to efforts in continually finding a stable and predictable business environment in the Philippines, among others. The WEF delegates, other than the Philippines being a smart choice for doing business, could be made aware that it is indeed more fun in the Philippines," Viera added.

In the Philippines, electronics is the country’s biggest export.

Last year, the electronics industry accounted for more than US$ 24 billion of exports or more than half of the total Philippine exports, invested $ 2.4 billion, and directly employed 530,000 engineers, technicians and operators .

From a study, for every one direct jobs, there are seven jobs created, hence more than four million Filipinos are benefiting from this industry.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
