Mikey,

Thank you for this link. The churches of Bohol, indeed, are a cultural and historical link. Seeing these pictures brings pride to my heart.

Truly, our island is Hispanified.

The architecture of said churches are similar, if not identical, to the old churches in Mother Spain.

Absolutely Beautiful!

the old balilihan church is now destroyed and what was left is the belfry which stood on top of what they called bandelion hill. the other remnant is a pillar near the residence of the requirme's and racho's in which it can be seen in the facade/aisle of the new church which is built in the early 1900's. the belfry in which they called the place, is now protected and developed and is now considered as one of the historical spots in bohol. at the foot of the hill is a spring called tampiro where people take a bath and wash their clothes near the annex building of the central school which is known in balilihan as pre-pub.

balilihan LGU beautified the place they called bandelion. ang now it's called mt. carmel hill. it's nice to go and drop by since they put a fountain in the top plus they restored the once ruined belfry.

were losing the paintings fast; sometimes due to neglect, other times due to the effect of the changes in temperature and the climate in general but most of the time, due to lack of heritage information from the priests' curriculum

Most church projects that imply renovations are indeed very bland moves to repaint, reapply sheets over the 1920's paintings by Ray Francia, Canuto Avila and some local artists.

Cortes and several other churches have lost the wing paintings, now these have been painted while as ordered by some genius.

If we keep looking up, well have a chance of finding that strip of heaven now lost.

Now, where do we look up if we need to find that vision of the divine?

calls, nindot na kuno karon ang bandelion hill. ila na gani gi-rename to mt. carmel hill. wala nako makasaka didto dugay na. murag vice-gov pa sad siguro si eddie ato. kadtong nag date date pa mi sa akong asawa karon. adto mi saka didto usahay aron walay estorbo. hehehehe.
sa akong nahibaw-an base sa balita sa akong ugangan, concreted na ang dalan pasaka. nya gi renovate and stairways with matching design na kuno ang hand rails. unya gi renovate sad ang belfry ug aduna nay fountain plus a good comfort room for the visitors to use to relieve theirselves. naa naman gani kunoy 24 hour roving guards to check the area for vandals.

The beautiful churches in  Bohol are the living legacies of our forefathers who were the builders and framers .

thanks call. hmm.. i wonder who can explain this. all my life Limasawa ako nahibaw-an..

There is an islet in Butuaqn called Masao, or something, this is where Butuanons claim  the first mass was.

They supported this claim with the recent archaeological diggings there which has unearthed an old boat.

Anyway, Butuan is aggressively making sure that record of Limasawa is corrected.

Personally, Limasawa still is the most strategic island that could be the venue of the first mass in honor of Saint Lazarus, the first day the spaniards shouted "Land Ahoy" after a long seamless ocean journey.

My theory is this.

Limasawa is right between Surigao and Southern Leyte. Butuan is still way inside the channel.

After a long journey without seeing land, common sense would tell us that the first sight of land and a place for anchorage would be an oasis of sorts. If you were  the captain would you bypass Limasawa and go to a very small Masao?

si pigafetta man gud, magellan's chronicler, nagrecord sa mga coordinates nga ila giagian. mao to gisunod sa mga historians ug didto sila niabot sa masao.

Starting off in with my wife's home town church.

Loon is indeed the queen of all Bohol Churches, not only because it has the biggest floor space but because it may earn the right to be called the only church in Bohol that was planned and done exactly according to plan.

The facade portrays the unmistakeable baroque architecture, one which gained prominence after the whole world realized a whole lot of their beliefs have been totally rafuted by science.

The graceful movement of the items in baroque art is eloquently showed in the vivid movements of the facade in Loon, one part advances while the columns and the designs depict that globl trend of beliefs.

the carvings at the altar would tell another story of the local artistry of the people.

nindot ang simbahan sa loon ilabi na ang naa sa luyo kay dagat na inig dulhog nimo. since it's bohol's  biggest town. it should also have the biggest church although there lots of small parishes now thriving in loon.

biggest in terms of barangays, because it has 67, but it bows out to Ubay which has a much bigger land area.

anyway, it is also a bit sad how the ceiling paintings in Loon are flaking and the restoration is not as perfect.

For a Domus Oratio, it should be done a lot better.

Latin Nikon. By the way, you got a nice equipment. I could only afford a D40. You got the ceiling pix right, and the yellows showing are the results of putting up the steel sheet backing on the holes eaten by rust on the ceilings. Tan -awa ra gud balik?

That is true and you know what?

I was privileged to have been with Irene Marcos in Bohol lately and when she saw the church, she exclaimed that it is quite similar to the church in Sarrat Ilocos where her sister Aimee chose as wedding venue.

The church in Sarrat is also dedicated to Santa Monica, and sports that same stone arch bridge from the convento to the church building.

All to make sure that the Spanish priest daw, does not have to go down to the level of the indios. Funny.

Latin Nikon. By the way, you got a nice equipment. I could only afford a D40. You got the ceiling pix right, and the yellows showing are the results of putting up the steel sheet backing on the holes eaten by rust on the ceilings. Tan -awa ra gud balik?

Yep, I saw that mao gyud lisod na i-restore ang ceiling. And regarding sa equipment I started with a a canon S3 P&S and then got a D40. Eventually after 3 yrs dha pa ko ning upgrade kay  dli na kaya sa D40 akong requirements. :D

But I could say that "its not a matter of the pana but its matter of the indian behind da pana"

I've seen D40 users take superb shots....I know you can do it as well. :D

during the wedding oa aimee, ang ceiling sa sarrat giusob ug logs from canada. ang reception sa wedding diha ra sa kilid sa church. nagpagama si ferdinand marcos ug hall nga ang gigamit nga finishing bricks nga puwa pareha sa ila church and convent.
