thanks call. hmm.. i wonder who can explain this. all my life Limasawa ako nahibaw-an..
There is an islet in Butuaqn called Masao, or something, this is where Butuanons claim the first mass was.
They supported this claim with the recent archaeological diggings there which has unearthed an old boat.
Anyway, Butuan is aggressively making sure that record of Limasawa is corrected.
Personally, Limasawa still is the most strategic island that could be the venue of the first mass in honor of Saint Lazarus, the first day the spaniards shouted "Land Ahoy" after a long seamless ocean journey.
My theory is this.
Limasawa is right between Surigao and Southern Leyte. Butuan is still way inside the channel.
After a long journey without seeing land, common sense would tell us that the first sight of land and a place for anchorage would be an oasis of sorts. If you were the captain would you bypass Limasawa and go to a very small Masao?
