One of my first writing assignments away from column writing was when the Mayor of Panglao had asked me to go to his office and look at the municipal property and tax record of where the old municipal cemetery use to be but when the owner was in a hurry to develop the property he buried the cemetery to accommodate for tourism.
Oddly with an exception of last year around the first time the BBC had a commemorative dive they have lost tourist every other year do to drowning incidents in their swimming pools.
I was able to slip past the gate and explore the boundaries as was said on such property deed, and checked out the facts and you could see the old tombstones as flat as day but easily taken to be mistaken as limestone.
Even the old dap dap tree where pioneers of the island had told me about the poor burying their dead there and most especially babies and children.
The place was under that very tree.
It is from the dap dap tree located behind the old dive shop/boat house shop, located back about some 200 metre's and reaches all the way to the small swimming pool near to the cemetery.
I was also interviewing a land surveyor who showwed me off record that the cemetery is still registered to the municipality of Panglao.
He also showwed me the boundaries and high lighted them as well.
He was not there to survey the property of BBC just parts and do some surveying for the airport as well.
