After a loud uproar from the public, the Traffic Management Group (TMG-7) stopped its operation of apprehending purported hot cars here, without giving official reason.
This came following filing of cases against TMG operatives who allegedly seized cars without any lawful order from competent authorities.
Four of the eight apprehended vehicles were already sent to the TMG-7 Regional Office in Cebu City while the remaining four are to be shipped this week.
The shipment was made despite the availability of a PNP Crime Lab here that has competent personnel able to conduct macro-etching and other test on vehicles submitted for verification.
Just recently, newly promoted SPO2 Edgardo Chan was deployed as detached service personnel to the PNP Crime Lab here after he completed a Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) course in Cebu City.
Lame Excuse? In a joint committee hearing held Thursday by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan committee on public utilities, public safety, three government agencies, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the PNP Crime Lab and the TMG were finger-pointing, blaming each other on the hot cars issue.
New Tagbilaran LTO officer-in-charge Joel Maloloy-on said the problem of tracing and apprehending hot cars could have been more effective if TMG coordinated with the LTO.
TMG Provincial Motor Vehicle Clearance Office head Insp. Eduardo Mara said the PNP Crime Lab here could partly be blamed for its different findings of macro-etching for just one vehicle.
TMG said there are macro-etching results that cleared vehicles in 2004 but later was declared by Bohol PNP Crime Lab as tampered later on.
PNP Crime Lab head PSupt Victoria De Guzman, in a separate interview, said she would not further comment on the TMG accusation but she remembers many instances that vehicles brought to them by TMG for macro-etching were shipped out to Cebu even before they can complete their lab tests.
De Guzman also could not understand why the seized cars are brought to Cebu.
