STATEMENT BY THE
HONORABLE RON P. SALO
KABAYAN Party-list
Assistant Majority Leader ROQUE, A FALLING STAR
Harry Roque was so enthusiastic with his new post as Presidential Spokesperson such that even before he officially took his oath, he was already issuing official statements and conducting press briefings.
Consumed by ambition and greed, Roque moved heaven and earth to get the appointment. And he was so proud of himself that he uttered to his imagined detractors: mamatay kayo sa inggit!
Yet, his fame appears to be too short. On his very first day, various groups and personalities have already been calling for his resignation. He was called various epithets, and was accused of namamangka sa dalawang ilog.
He made history as he is being booted from his post even before he has warmed his seat. There was no honeymoon stage, so to speak. His enemies multiply faster than he can utter a word.
Like a falling star, Roque fades as fast as he falls. It will be good if even a little trace of him will be found when he lands. He cannot even be called a shooting star as this connotes emission of brightness before it falls to the ground.
Perhaps he sensed his immediate downfall is inevitable such that he was already applying to become a Presidential Adviser even before he officially assumed his post as Presidential Spokesperson.
Now he tries to cling like a leech to his vacated congressional seat through his dummy, Romel Bagares.
Therefore, let him who thinks is strong take heed lest he fall (I Cor. 10: 12). And God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble (James 4: 6-7).
