Only a public apology from City Kag. Edgar Kapirig can settle their feud, according to Deputy Mayor Mariano Uy.
However, until yesterday Kapirig refused to issue a public apology.
During an interview over Station dyRD, Kapirig said he would not ask forgiveness for a wrong which he has not done.
In fact, attempts by City Mayor Dan Lim to reconcile his two friends proved futile.
Kapirig said it was Uy who have blown up the whole thing as the latter publicized their rift through the media.
The city lawmaker even denied he knew anything about the cause of Uy's ire. He said he was "surprised" when the deputy mayor filed a complaint for slander with damages against him at the Poblacion-1 barangay hall last Tuesday.
Uy and Kapirig is scheduled meet tomorrow at the Lupong Tagapamayapa of Poblacion 1.
According to Uy, the city councilor lied when he claimed to have no knowledge as to the cause of their squabble.
During an interview with the Chronicle, the deputy mayor showed two drafts of a public apology that were supposed to be published in newspapers.
However, the statement never saw print as Kapirig allegedly withdrew it.
Uy said, the city councilor "maligned his honor and integrity" when the latter allegedly told several individuals that fund donations for the Botika sa Katawhan were mishandled.
Certain employees of the Botika sa Katawhan were also told by Kapirig of the misuse of funds, Uy alleged.
Uy said he is filing the complaint to clear his name as project director of the Botika sa Katawhan.
According to Uy, monetary donations to the Botika is minimal as most doctors in the United Sates who contributed to the success of the project give medicines, and not cash.
The Botika was borne out of Uy's solicitations to friends in the US. It turned out to be a success even just a year after its operation.
Presently, some 7,000 residents have already benefited of free medicines distributed through the Botika, Uy claimed.
He said, the accusations levelled against him could affect the Botika and its beneficiaries, as donors may no longer send medicines due to Kapirig's accusations.
The deputy mayor said, the generosity of Botika benefactors depends on his reputation.
Uy, during a radio interview yesterday asked beneficiaries of the Botika project to attend the hearing 9 a.m. tomorrow at Poblacion I barangay hall. Since the controversy affects the credibility of the project. The presence of the beneficiaries will manifest their support for the continuance of the Botika project. --
