A daughter of reelectionist Councilor Lucio Balbin will be running in his place in next year’s polls.
Genesyl Balbin will assume the spot to be vacated by her father after he fell ill last week.
The younger Balbin brings in a fresh dimension to the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) slate headed by Mayor Dan Lim and ex-Vice Mayor Nuevas Tirol -Montes.
She holds a Master in Public Administration from the Holy Name University .
A resident of Cogon district, she is expected to benefit from a solid base nurtured by her father.
G-Jaw, her nickname, is also a well known youth leader who is active in church work.
Although the elder Balbin’s candidacy has not yet been officially withdrawn, it is expected to be formalized Monday which is the deadline for the substitution of candidates.
He is recuperating from a stroke that he suffered last week but the NPC believes it will be premature to send him on the campaign trail.
The decision was reached to tap Balbin’s own daughter not only because it would allow one who knows his visions but also because she is capable of serving in the same capacity in her own right.
She is not new to the position since she serves as a local legislative staff in the city council.
NPC believes that she will further boost an already powerhouse team because she brings in not only youthful dynamism and idealism but also a wholesome personality.
Add to that the fact that she is one of only two female aspirants in the NPC ticket and her being a religious leader.
The name of course is a major factor.
A silent but dedicated worker, the elder Balbin was supposed to seek his third and last term.
Widely respected for his unassuming ways, the elder Balbin’s good name is expected to boost the chances of his daughter.
According to NPC sources, it will not be simply a sympathy vote but at the same time a vote for one who is well-qualified to serve in the city council. - Sunday Post
