      Today would be a day of oldies and nostalgia as Island City Mall schedules a special event, which will start at 9:30 in the morning and ends at 4:00 in the afternoon, in honor of all grandparents in the whole world. Known as Grandparents Day, this occasion which was crafted by a grandmother of 40 in West Virginia, USA, is now celebrating its 28 years of existence.

      A free massage sponsored by Pau de Arco, a sugar screening and free check-up by GX Pharma and a Pedia and Adult Consultation from Terra Medic are in store for the public in the morning of the event. All three freebees can be found at the lower ground floor of the Mall.

      At 2:30 in the afternoon, a talk show with the theme “Growing Old Gracefully” will be highlighted. The show will be about the health of today’s elders and how they maintain their vigor and strength inspite of the growing years. Eight grandparents from all walks of life are invited as guests for the said show. Honoring the event are: Mr. Pedro Lopez, 66 years old, retired public school teacher, and President of Tagbilaran City Capitol Tennis Club who will do the “harana”; Mrs. Margie Magdosa, a pharmacist who doesn’t age (even if a grandmother of 4 and who is into food processing business); Mr. Antonio Wycoco, Vice President for Marketing of Legacy Company, 66 years old, who has been married for 44 years and now has ten grandchildren, who will do ballroom dancing with Ms Fiel Angeli Araoarao-Gabin; Mr. Paulino Biloy, Sr., OSCA President and Superintendent of the Southern Industrial Project, who will play the piano; Barangay Health Worker, Mrs. Teodula Jamora, who will do the “balak; Famous Boholana painter Mrs. Hermogena Lungay and CWL member Mrs. Brigida Garay. Dr. Nonaluz Pizarras, Company Doctor of the Alturas Group of Companies is also invited to give answers to questions regarding the health of today’s elders.

      The show will be hosted by Ms Fiel Angeli Araoarao-Gabin, who has been tending to her blind grandmother for several years. She considers her grandmother as a source of inspiration and believes that the occasion is a thanksgiving and a fitting tribute to all grandparents.

      The launching of La Bailar Season 2, still at the Activity Center of Island City Mall will follow right after the tribute for grandparents. (Junessa O. Requeron)
