« on: June 07, 2010, 04:01:46 AM »
The Bohol Chronicle, Bohol's independent bi-weekly newspaper gets national recognition as it emerged as the lone nominee for Visayas for two journalism awards of the Philippine Press Institute (PPI).

The 56-year old community newspaper is nominated for "Best Edited Community Newspaper" and "Best in Photojournalism."

The other nominees are Baguio Midland Courier (Luzon) and Sun*Star Weekend (Mindanao) in the "best edited" category with The Ilocus Times (Luzon) and Sun*Star Weekend (Mindanao) in the "best in photojournalism" category.

Three other categories, "Best in Business & Economic Reporting," "Best in Editorial," and "Best in Science & Environmental Reporting" will also be giving awards to community newspapers during the Civic Journalism Community Press Awards at the Diamond Hotel in Manila on June 25.

The Bohol Chronicle hit the streets of Tagbilaran on May 16, 1954.

The paper was also awarded as "RP's Community Newspaper of the Year 1970" by the Rotary Club of Manila.

there's another thread here in tb that asks why bohol chronicle is no different from a school paper or something.  and now this, a nominee for a national award for best edited paper?

here's my 2-cents' worth, though:  items on the front and back pages are the only ones that are edited.  in-between, anything goes because most of these are mere fillers anyway.  so one gets to read funny and atrocious articles at times.  if the paper manages to win, and it will, being the only nominee for the visayas, surely it is well-edited only because of slight-to-none editing.  what a way to go!
