Binay in Bohol Sandugo Street Dancing
« on: July 28, 2010, 08:58:11 AM »
By Bohol Chronicle

Vice Pres. Jejomar Binay will take time out to fly here today as guest of honor during the annual Sandugo street dancing.

The former Makati mayor who made it to the country's 2nd top post will likewise rekindle his sisterhood ties with six municipalities and this capital city. He willingly accepted the invitation extended by Deputy City Mayor Mario Uy, acting chair of the Sandugo Foundation.

Binay will deliver his message during the Sandugo street dancing competition this afternoon shortly before he will fly back to Manila to catch up the last flight of Philippine Airlines at 5 p.m. today. He will be introduced by Mayor Dan Lim.

Meanwhile, eight contingents will vie for awards in today's mardi gras. Five of the contingents will come from schools while only three will participate from the municipalities.

The recent election which resulted to the assumption of new municipal mayors gave the elected mayors very limited time to prepare their delegations.

The towns which are sending contingents today are Catigbian, Dauis and Maribojoc while the campus contingents are Holy Name University, Tagbilaran City Science High School, Manga High School, Dr. Cecilio Putong National high School and Immaculada High School in Baclayon.

The contingents will converge at the City Port Area. By 12:30 p.m. today, the movement of the contingents will commence passing through Gallares Street, until they will reach Plaza Rizal where the contingents will start their actual dancing in the streets.

With spectators lined up along CPG Avenue, the participants will dance their way until they will converge at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex where the judging will be done.

Floats will add color to the mardi gras, to include the Miss Sandugo beauties while another float will highlight with TV stars from GMA-7 who performed before a huge crowd at the Port Area last night.

Prizes at stake: P200,000 for the champion while P150,000 and P100,000 will be won by the first and second runners-up, respectively.

Special awards are: Best in Street Dancing, P30,000 and winner in the competition proper P20,000.

A visiting band from Manila will provide entertainment after awarding of the winners.
