Lewis Hamilton won F1 Hungarian Grand Prix
« on: July 29, 2013, 09:27:56 AM »
Britain's Lewis Hamilton won the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix race on Sunday, his 4th victory on this track (previously: 2007, 2009 and 2012) and his 22nd career victory with a time of 1:42:29.445.

With that he equaled the track victory record set by 7-time world record holder Michael Schumacher and the overall victory record set by his compatriot Damon Hill. With 124 points overall Hamilton is still considerably behind the pack leader, Germany's Sebestian Vettel, driving for Red Bull, who has 172 points on the Drivers' Championship Table after a third place finish at 12.459 seconds out.

Finland's Kimi Raikonen driving for Lotus, was second, lagging 10.938 seconds behind Hamilton, after coming up from a fifth place start. With that he pushed his overall points to 134 and into second place behind Vettel.

Spain's Fernando Alonso, driving for Ferrari who had been in second place on the Drivers' Championship table finished 5th, and now has 133 points, pushing him back to third place.

Australian Mark Webber, also driving for Red Bull came in fourth after a 10th place start brought on by technical problems.

France' s Romain Grosjean (Lotus) finished sixth, after suffering a penalty for leaving the track while passing Alonso.

Speaking after his win Hamilton, who started from pole position and led from start to finish to score his first win since he started driving for Mercedes this year, thanked fans for their support. A late-night strategy session with his whole team boosted his spirits, he said, adding that he had been hungry for a smooth run.

Hamilton left the pack behind at the start, as Romain Grosjean of Lotus failed in an attempt to grab second place from Vettel, allowing the Red Bull driver to hit the first curve unchallenged.

Raikkonen, who drove hard and well, staving off several charges from Vettel up to and including the final lap, praised his car. Distinctly unhappy with the fifth place start position he conceded to having taken several risks in moving up to second place.

Vettel acknowledged that this had not been his best race. Complications at the start and damage to the car had not helped, he added.
