Philippine sports officials yesterday expressed concern about reports Indonesia may not be ready to host the 26th Southeast Asian Games in November while maintaining that Philippine side of the preparations is on track.
Mark Joseph, president of the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA) and one of the most active officials of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), said the reports are compounded with rumors Indonesia would ask Thailand to save the
Games by agreeing to a hosting transfer.
“Yung preparations of Indonesia are delayed, but we in RP are still on track,†said Joseph.
Unlike in past SEA Games hosting by Indonesia, Jakarta will no longer be the main venue of the meet as organizers named the province of Palembang as the central hub.
While the Philippines, he said, is right on track in its own preparations, the country could not rush things just the same, owing to lack of an official calendar of sports from where preparations of participating countries are usually based upon.
The rule, according to Joseph, is for the calendar of sports to have been finalized last November (2010), the month, incidentally, the organizers started the official countdown to the Games opening ceremony on Nov. 11, 2011 (or 11-11-11).
The SEAG Federation is set to hold a meeting on Feb. 25, which is the second since May 10 last year when it held the same federation meeting as revealed in the SEAG profile posted on the internet.
Even the task force, which will be a joint effort between the POC and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has yet to be formed, Joseph lamented.
