Shaping up to become a major destination for various sports activities in the region, the Sea Sun and Sea/Kayak Philippines, the provincial government of Zambalesand the Dept. of Tourism-Region III, will hold the first Kayak Explore Zambales Multi-Sports Festival on Nov. 9-11.

Didi Camara, the prime mover of the event, said the three-day event will feature eco-adventure sports of open-water swimming, kayaking, running and biking.

Camara said highlights of the festivities include the 32-km kayak marathon; the 18-km tri-plus-one event; 60-km duathlon and novice race.

The 32-km kayak marathon will kick off in Uacon Cove in Candelaria town with a turnaround at the Petron Jetty in Masinloc and back into Uacon Lake.

Kayakers will go through the mouth of the river to reach the finish line in Uacon Lake, Camara said.

After an hour, she said, an 18-km kayak relay follows with a 1.5- km open water swim from the shoreline to Potipot Island, 2-km beach run around the scenic island, a 5-km kayak dash to the boardwalk of Uacon Lake and a 10-km trail bike around the lake.

A team of four, with a minimum of one female member, can compete in the 18-km multi-sports relay.

On the second day, a sedate eco-touring of kayaking, bird-watching and mangrove planting will be held after a challenging 60-km run bike duathlon, starting from the foot of Zambales mountain ranges, transitioning at the Zambales Sports Complex in Iba for a 56-km bike run to Uacon Lake boardwalk.

Other equally interesting events include: taekwondo, swimming competition, chess and boxing.
