A total seven records fell in athletics in the
2012 Palarong Pambansa, two of them owned by phenomenal Anjelica De Joseph of Western Visayas in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters in the girls elementary division at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) here.
De Joseph ran the 800 meter dash in 2:18.8 to eclipse the 2:24.28 record set by Lovilyn Pamatian, also of Western Visayas, in 2010 before winning in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4::49.9, besting the previous 4:47.90 record of Policornia Bolobo in the 1991 Palarong Pambansa.
Another Western Visayan girl Joneza Mie Sustituedo also set another record run in the 3,000 meters secondary girls, clocking in 10:34.02, erasing the record of 10:40.68 set in 2000 by Mary Jane Campos of Cagayan Valley.
On the other hand, Jie Anne Calis of Northern Mindanao grabbed the gold in 1500 meters elementary girls with a time of 4:48.9 and also set a new record in that event.
The earlier record holders are Maureen Emily Schrijvers of the National Capital Region (NCR) who erected a new record in high jump secondary girls with a time of 1.62 while Julian Reem Fuentes of Cagayan Valley set his own record in the long jump at 7.26 meters, breaking the 7:15 old record set by Paulo Martinez of Southern Tagalog in 2002.
Ronald Lacson, also of Western Visayas, owns the other new javelin record with a heave of 53.47 meters, to beat the record of 51:88 meters set by Jonah Robles of Southern Tagalog in 1998.
