Considered Assassinated
« on: January 12, 2011, 04:18:29 PM »
What level of importance must a person have, before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

personal curiosity at work here, thus, the research.

assassination is murder, with important consequences.

the level of importance of the murdered person is ambiguous, be he haloed by fame or infamy.  it's just that assassination involves any prominent person whose murder has political, religious, ideological, or military repercussions.  the assassin need also have any of these motives for the murder to be called an assassination.  (a president who's killed by rat poison that's mistaken by his private cook for a flour mix is not assassinated.)

a prominent businessman is murdered, not assassinated.

a mayor of a remote town may be assassinated by a political rival as far as the locality is concerned.  he may be reported as murdered at the national level.

i cannot, for the life of me, afford to assassinate anyone or anything, much less one's brazen admiration for the prosaic however deemed clear it may be.  but please accept my gratitude for glossing over my poetic bereftness.  in some threads in this forum, though, it could be that temptation lurks... ;D

Di ba bronse (Sp. bronce) ang atong tawag ani nga metal?  ??? Kanang tingga (Sp. plomo), lead man tingali na. Incidentally, as a kid I heard "plomo" used for "tingga", which I guess is both Bisaya ang Tagalog.

A native word, "tumbaga"--which I bet you haven't heard in all of your Chinese life--could very well be taken to mean "bronze".  8)

thanks for the new vocabulary, bai hubs.  unsa man diay nang tanso?

Tanso in this sense means something like fake gold, I guess. Or perhaps some gold-like metal with very little gold content? Bronze or brass could very well look like gold. Tumbaga, which I guess is kind of equivalent to tanso, could refer to copper alloys in general. However, tumbaga does not have the connotation of cheap metal or poor substitute (for gold) or outright fake, as it apparently has in Tagalog.
