PAPI-Baliwag-Sogo medical mission benefits 300 families

BALIWAG, Bulacan – Over 300 indigent families of this Bulacan town benefited from the recent medical mission here jointly organized by the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI), Baliuag LGU and Sogo Hotel which fielded its Doctor On Wheels contingent under its Sogo Cares corporate social responsibility program.
 
Baliwag Mayor Ferdie Estrella also mobilized doctors and support medical personnel of the local government for the mission. Aside from the 300 families who were extended free medical and dental services and medicines, some 200 senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) also received gift packages including grocery items provided by Sogo Cares.
 
Mayor Estrella thanked PAPI national president Nelson Santos who initiated the project, and other mission partner groups for the community outreach initiative in Baliwag which coincided with the town’s annual week-long festivities and his birth month.
 
Santos who was joined by other PAPI national officers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, said PAPI, Sogo Cares and PSiJourn Mega Manila have agreed to pursue the medical mission project, with the Sogo Doctors on Wheels as their core contingent. to help serve indigent families and PWDs in the countryside. 
 
He also acknowledged the indispensable efforts of Dr. Paolo dela Cruz and Baliwag City Health Officer, Dr. Ma. Joan Dinlasan who coordinated the project at the LGU level,Ms. Nicel Lavente who represented Sogo Hotel, The Greenery in Sabang Baliwag and PSijourn Mega Manila as media partner .
 
Dr. Dinlasan said PAPI’s initiative complimented Mayor Estrella community service program which, aside from medical, also includes other basic social welfare  services.
 
PAPI’s community service partnership with Sogo Hotel and PSiJourn Mega Manila started when they earlier jointly undertook a similar Doctor on Wheels medical mission in the rural barangays of Alaminos City in Pangasinan which benefitted some 600 indigent families and PWDs.
 
PAPI officials who joined the Baliwag City outing included Abel Pablo, Executive Vice President; Jessica Bacud, Vice President for Luzon, Angelina Lim, Vice President for Mindanao, Ester Gallardo, Board Secretary and president of PSiJourn Mega Manila, Nena Mallari, Auditor,  among others.
