STATEMENT BY THE HONORABLE NEIL J. ABAYON, AANGAT TAYO Party-list
Assistant Minority Leader

Mission accomplished: Troops trusted President Duterte

MILLENNIAL SOLON TO AFP:
SEND TO CONGRESS AN ENHANCED AFP MODERNIZATION PLAN THAT INCLUDES URBAN WARFARE, DRONES, ROBOTS

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police Special Action Forces (PNP-SAF) accomplished their mission. They exterminated the Maute-ISIS forced who tried to separate Marawi City from the Philippines.

In stark contrast to the former president who sent, let and left the SAF 44 to die in Mamasapano, President Rodrigo Duterte is a leader our troops trusted.

Now, aside from rebuilding Marawi, we must continue to support our troops by, among others, giving them the training they need for future wars.

As member of the House Committee on National Defense and Security, I am open to a next-level AFP Modernization Program which includes such training and weaponry for urban warfare, close quarters combat (CQC), drones and robots.

I urge the AFP leadership to put together a sustainable and reality-based enhancement of the Revised AFP Modernization Program (RA 10349) that includes a sizeable plan for future wars against forces who will try and surely fail to challenge the government. That future of warfare also includes sophisticated methods and tools to finally end insurgency.

In relation to minding the welfare of our soldiers, I filed House Bill 6187 (“Stakeholder Support to Military and Other Armed Services Personnel Act”) in August seeking to give active duty soldiers and veteran soldiers benefits similar to most of the benefits now available to senior citizens. John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
