The United Negros Alliance yesterday dismissed claims made by Vice Gov. Genaro Alvarez Jr. discrediting the gains of the Negros First Agenda in the past two years and six months, a press release from the UNA camp said.
UNA spokesperson, Pauline Tumunong-Nuega, said the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental, under Alvarez, had approved all the
development initiatives proposed by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. through the Negros First agenda. In fact, on several occasions, the Vice Governor has taken credit for the achievements made by the province though the Negros First, and it is inimical (sic) that he is criticizing these now, Nuega said.
It shows that Alvarez intends to discredit the program’s successes for political purposes only, and not based on genuine reasons, she added in the press release.
She said that, in a radio interview, Alvarez presented a plan for the Negros First CyberCentre that is different from the original one he had concurred in when he was still on good terms with Marañon, the press release said.
Instead of an Information and Communications Technology hub, Alvarez wants a dormitory for students coming from San Carlos to Hinoba-an, a proposal that executives from the ICT-BPO sector called “totally absurdâ€, Nuega said.
On Alvarez’s proposal to privatize Mambukal Resort, he should rethink his position because it is a self-liquidating enterprise, and has booked revenues of P113.2 million in 30 months, according to the records of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office, the press release said.
On Alvarez’s tirades against the Negros First Ranch, Nuega said, “It was him and the majority of the SP members who approved the establishment of the ranch in Murcia with the passage of Provincial Ordinance No. 003â€, the press release said.
