APEC CEO Summit in Vietnam
« on: November 11, 2017, 02:05:18 PM »
STATEMENT BY THE HONORABLE RON P. SALO
KABAYAN Party-list, Assistant Majority Leader

PRESIDENT DUTERTE IMPRESSES APEC CEOs IN VIETNAM
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, a lawyer by profession, proved to the international business community via the APEC CEO Summit in Vietnam that he has a deep understanding of globalization and international economics and their implications on national life.

His extemporaneous response to the question from the floor about what countries can do to address globalization was on point, bull’s eye.

With the migration of the best human resource talents to where the job opportunities are, President Duterte stressed that “people left behind” must be able to catch up. He drew first from the experience of the US with the migration of businesses to China, before he spoke of the Philippine migration of highly skilled labor to the Middle East. Impressive!

I believe President Duterte and US President Donald Trump will like each other quite well given this latest display of statesmanship and deep understanding of international business concerns by President Duterte.

Even in the international arena, President Duterte displays political maturity and savviness, drawing from his reservoir of experiences from decades of public service. He has, in fact, already restored fishing access of Filipino fisherfolks to the South China Sea.

Although there are reported incidents taking place in the small islands in the South China Sea, President Duterte, who has access to top secret intelligence and an array of advisers, should be given the widest latitude in pursuing the best strategy for the national interest.

President Duterte himself has said that he has not cast aside the ruling of the International Arbitral Tribunal at The Hague and he said he will raise that matter at a more appropriate time.

The entire Filipino nation needs to fully support President Duterte who knows how to play geopolitical chess. (END)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
