Where Was Angelo Balili during the PCL Bohol elections?
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:15:22 AM »
It was a bruising fight to the finish with all three contenders still confident of winning even at the last minute.

But halfway into the counting, it became evident that only one winner
has the commanding lead to pull away from the rest of the field.

Thus, when the smoke of the battle for the Philippine Councilors League, Bohol chapter presidency cleared, it became certain that the best man won. He was Brigido "Boy" Imboy, municipal councilor of Loay who was seeking reelection as PCL president.

Left to bite the dust were two equally determined aspirants-Tita Gallentes of G-Hernandez and City Councilor Danilo Bantugan.

Imboy polled 269 votes pulling a monumental upset over his two opponents whose total score combined can not even overhaul the lead mustered by the winner. Gallentes only managed to collect 148 votes while Bantugan came in third with 44 votes.

Lopsided at best, the Imboy camp made it so, apparently because it left no stone unturned.

Playing a key role in the Imboy triumph was his wife Loay Mayor May Lim-Imboy. She was said to be her lucky charm and secret weapon.

There were reports of massive vote buying on the part of the Imboy group but this was promptly denied. In denying the vote buying raps, the Imboy camp said, it was the PCL president's performance that propelled him to victory.

LEVEL PLAYING FIELD

Three days into the run-up to the PCL presidential derby, it was apparent that nobody can claim that he was way ahead of the pack. It was anybody's game from there.

Adding excitement to the highly- charged PCL elections was the unexpected entry of businessman Angelo Balili who threw his lot to the bid of Gallentes.

Interviewed during DYTR's Cuentas Claras radio program, Balili said he was trying to level the playing field by denying Imboy the upper hand of the electoral exercise.

Also calling his support to Gallentes as the great equalizer, Balili whose penchant for one liners is legendary said, he just wanted to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.

Clearly directed to Imboy's much vaunted logistical muscle, Balili's clout was nowhere to be found when it was needed most.

All told, the promise of a level playing field was nothing more than an unforgiving terrain for his candidate Gallentes .As Imboy raced to the finish line like a bullet train, what was touted early on as the man to beat in the three-way fight for the PCL presidency, was never been truer.

Packaged as a close encounter of the beauty (Gallentes), the best (Imboy) and the brightest(Bantugan), it is now settled that the best man wins.
