The Ambition of Bantugan, Imboy, and Baja-Gallentes
« on: June 03, 2007, 09:11:41 AM »
The race for the presidency of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Bohol Chapter is on.

An elected PCL president earns the winning councilor an ex-officio seat at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).

Some 482 members of the organization which includes city and municipal councilors, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) federation presidents and Liga ng Barangay president will convene to elect the new president.

Although the PCL election is not due until August, the contenders are campaigning early as political connections does not only play an immense role in the elections but also how much funds a candidate has.

This year's election is no exception with three kagawads already confirming that they will vie for the position.

The contenders include incumbent PCL president, re-elected Loay Kag. Brigido Imboy, City Kag. Danilo Bantugan and Garcia-Hernandez Kag. Tita Baja-Gallentes.

Imboy, who was rumored to run for 3rd district congressman and later as board member, decided for re-election as Loay councilor purposely to be able to run for his second term as PCL president.

Imboy is said to be enjoying an upperhand being the incumbent PCL head.

Bantugan, who is serving his third term as city councilor, is said to have the blessing of City Mayor Dan Lim who may bankroll his bid.

In an interview with the Chronicle, the lawyer-councilor bared that he has started campaigning with town kagawads and has sought the endorsement of Gov. Erico Aumentado.

Meanwhile, Gallentes is said to have been assured support by outgoing Rep. Eladio Jala and Vice Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera for the PCL presidency.

The position was purportedly traded by Jala and Herrera in exchange for the Garcia-Hernandez mayorship which Gallentes was eyeing to challenge incumbent town Mayor Myrna Schreurs.

Gallentes agreed to run as councilor under Schreurs with the assurance of support for the PCL presidency from Jala and Herrera. (Kit Bagaipo, the Bohol Chronicle 5/30/2007)
