The Commission on Elections (Comelec)has underscored the vital role of media in its education and information campaign on poll automation as well as in the prevention of election-related incidents.
Lawyer Dennis Ausan, Comelec regional director, said they consider the media as viable partners in the forthcoming elections for a transparent and credible first-time poll automation.
"The Comelec is currently drafting a new set of guidelines for media coverage. But, we assured the media that we will be giving our full support for their coverages as they do their tasks in informing the public about the conduct of the election," Ausan said.
In Western Visayas, Ausan said, the poll body is preparing for a hundred percent automation of election.
He said part of the preparations is the conduct of series of forum among the voters.
He also said the COMELEC will place satellite disks in areas needing special attention.
"To date, we already have reduced 230,000 of multiple voters from our lists and we expect that the numbers will increase as the election period nears," he said.
Ausan also urged voters to respect the sanctity of their ballots and not engage in vote-buying.(PNA)
