Local organizer finalizes venues for ASEAN Summit meetings in Iloilo
ILOILO CITY, Jan. 4 (PNA) -- The local organizing committee (LOC) of the 2017 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit is now finalizing the venues for this city’s hosting of four meetings from March 6 to 15.
City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) head and executive director of the LOC Junel Ann P. Divinagracia on Wednesday said that they are looking for alternative venues since the meetings coincided with the national hosting of the Rotary Club.
Rotary Club has already booked the Iloilo Convention Center and the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel for their event, she said.
One alternative is the Diversion21 Hotel for the meeting of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, she said.
She expressed optimism that the city could find suitable venues as she cited that the ASEAN meetings will only be hosting representatives from 10 countries.
Iloilo City is slated to host two ministerial and two senior officials meetings. They will be hosted by AFP, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Meanwhile, she announced that they are looking for volunteers who will be trained as liaison officers to assist during the meetings. Students who are interested to apply must be endorsed by their Student Affairs Office.
Those who passed the series of interviews will undergo training that will be facilitated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Service Institute. (PNA)
