THE Boholanos gave reelectionist Gov. Erico Aumentado a fresh mandate in the May 14 polls via a landslide win that is unprecedented in the annals of Bohol history in two ways.
The governor garnered 397,849 votes – 90 percent of those who exercised their right to suffrage. The remaining 10 percent was divided among Aumentado’s six opponents and stray votes – if any.
This Aumentado win is also the first time ever that a Boholano governor was elected to a third consecutive term.
Statement
In a statement issued following his proclamation Thursday, Aumentado thanked the Almighty – and the Boholanos for their trust and confidence that resulted to his overwhelming reelection for a third and final term.
The Provincial Board of Canvassers chaired by Election Supervisor Veronico Petalcorin, co-chaired by Provincial Prosecutor Macario Delusa with Bohol Schools Division Superintendent Cerina Bolos as member and secretary Thursday proclaimed Aumentado as winner at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan session hall at past 5 p.m.
“This historic mandate is both an inspiration and a challenge for me to pursue with more vigor our program of development for the province,†he said.
He considers his win also as “a humbling experience for one whose mandate carries a responsibility to serve the province with the highest expectation of the people to do more and more for its development.â€
“Our campaign taglines have always been Together, Bohol Forever and Together, We Can Make a Greater Bohol . To achieve this enobling objective, we must have to strengthen the unity and cooperation of the Boholano leaders and our beloved people to the extent that we are willing to reach out to the political opposition in the province,†he said.
At the same time, he issued a challenge:
“We must have to heal and bind the wounds in the last political battle. Thus every Boholano is summoned to join in our efforts for unity and reconciliation which is the cry of the hour,†he added.
Aumentado who celebrated his birthday Friday, attributes his win to the blessings of the Almighty, his good governance and performance.
