The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reset the date of the barangay elections in Bohol and Zamboanga to November 25.
Comelec Commissioner Sixto Brillantes told reporters that they will be conducting the special polls for both provinces on the said sate to prevent any holdover period for incumbent barangay officials. The term of the incumbents ends on November 30.
The Comelec has yet to release the calendar of activities, but Brillantes said the election period for both provinces will start on October 25, thirty days before elections.
The filing period for the Certificates of Candidacy in Bohol has been extended for two days, while Zamboanga candidates will be given 6 days to file their COC's.
In the event where school buildings are not rehabilitated by the time of the elections, the Comelec is ready to build makeshift polling places in school compounds to facilitate the elections, Brillantes said.
The Comelec will also be supervising the distribution of relief goods in Bohol to make sure candidates in the barangay elections don't use the goods for their campaigning.
"Meron nang executive order na nagbibigay, it will trickle down from the national, to the provincial, to the municipal, to the barangay. Gusto naming putulin yon, hindi pwede ang barangay," Brillantes said in a statement.
