CBCP offers prayers for the victims and families of the 13 OFWs killed in road accident in Saudi Arabia
MANILA, Nov. 20 (PNA) -- The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is offering prayers and masses for the 13 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who died in a vehicular accident in Saudi Arabia last Tuesday.
At the same time, Bishop Ruperto Santos, chairman of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People (ECMI), said they are also praying for the families of those who perished in the road mishap.
“CBCP-ECMI offers our prayers and holy masses, imploring to our Almighty God to grant them eternal rest and strength to their families,†he said.
The Balanga bishop added, "It is a tragic loss to our country and to their families. We lost not only OFWs but heroes. They went to Al-Ahsa, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their welfare and well-being of their families, willing to sacrifice and to suffer separation for the love of their families.â€
Santos also lauded the Filipino workers’ dedication to their jobs and for helping to uplift the lives of their families by working far away from them.
“We remember their dedication to work, their fidelity to their family and being responsible to their duties, the true face of OFWs,†he said.
On Nov. 17, the service van with more than 20 passengers is on its way to the workers’ lodging house when it collided with a delivery truck in Al-Ahsa, a province in the Eastern Region of the kingdom.
Thirteen people perished while several others were badly injured. (PNA)
