(alang kang Nicole ug alang kang Filipinas)
The prey is
spread-eagled on the ground
her limbs bound by claws
that shatter bones
as he tears off her flesh
piece by piece
with his beak.
His weight bears down on her
and she writhes to break free
but every quiver breaks a bone
and the claws dig deeper, harder.
She gasps, draws breath,
but through a slit throat
the wind merely whistles
with frothy blood.
So she bleeds,
until he has his fill,
and leaves her
spread-eagled.
The remains lie
spread-eagled
on the ground.
Blood stains the dirt,
what flesh remains blisters in the heat ,
and the bones glisten ’neath the sun
As above,
vultures
cease circling and
one by one
swoop in for a feast.
