SONG OF PRAISE

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/songofpraise.html

Words by Jean Wood

Music by TQ Solis, Jr.

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
God of the lightning, storm and sea
How can you care for little me?
Ruler of the sun and wind and star
How can you hear me from so far?
God of the atom, mote and cell
I know you know me very well.

2
You made the spark that is my mind
Special, unique of humankind
I hear the intimate small voice
Waking my senses to rejoice.
Mold this brief seed to struggle free
Set me on fire to sing for Thee!

(Repeat 2)

Coda:
Set me on fire to sing for Thee!

SOWER OF SEEDS

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/sowerofseeds.html

Words by Michael Dubina

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Let us sow God's seeds of glory
On our roads of life:
Seeds of virtue, love and comfort
That diminish strife.
Everywhere we walk or journey
Let us sow His seeds
And be planters of the harvest
That fulfill our needs.

2
Some may fall on barren wasteland
As the Scriptures warned;
Some may fall on stones of pavement;
Some among the thorns.
But the ones we sow with patience
And with Christian care
He will grow for us to harvest
Of the fruits they bear.

(Interlude)

Coda:
Everywhere we walk or journey
Let us sow His seeds
And be planters of the harvest
That fulfill our needs.

TAKE TIME TO PRAY

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/taketimetopray.html

Words by Marian Ford Park

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
There are those times I stumble
Times I fear I've lost my way.
It is then I seek the Master;
It is then I stop to pray.

2
I know our Father guides us;
If we listen He'll convey
His comfort and compassion
If we take the time to pray.

3
Look around you, see the beauty
And the love that fills each day.
Then if trouble comes look upward,
Find a little time to pray.

Coda:
Then if trouble comes look upward,
Find a little time to pray.

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/teachmetolisten.html

Words by Margaret Lowell White

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Let me sit and Thy feet and listen
As they did so long ago.
But I am always busy, Lord,
And the world does press me so.

2
When problems overwhelms me
And there is so much to do,
I can not pause to listen
As You would want me to.

Refrain:
When foolish tensions fill my day
Teach me, Lord, to pause and pray
And let frustrations slip away;
May I hear and then obey.

(Repeat 1)

(Repeat Refrain)

Coda:
Let me sit at Thy feet and listen...

Thank you, Lord.
Thank you, Lord.

For a home that's filled with love.
And thanks for the trials, too,
And faith in things above.

And friends who come to call;
For the budding rose of Spring time
And the golden leaves of Fall.

When rainbows fill the sky;
And for the pride inside my heart

Thank you, Lord, for daily things
Which bless us one and all!

THE GIVING TREE

This piece is a little prayer-poetry Ms. Bobbie wrote in 1993 for the children's rosary at St. Rita's Parish (Harahan, LA) and which he gave to me to set to music. Very fortunately, I was inspired to come up with this ragtime beat which I thought suited the melody I've created for it.

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/thegivingtree.html

Words by Barbara "Bobbie" Henry

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Now there's a tree
Called the giving tree
And that tree is you
And that tree is me.

2
And so we all
Must learn to be
Giving and sharing
Just like that tree.

3
And like our Lord
He paid the price
Like that great tree
He gave His life.

4
And like that tree
We learn to give
And like the Lord Jesus
We learn to live.

5
Now there's a tree
Called the giving tree
And that tree is you
And that tree is me.

THE HAND OF GOD

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/thehandofgod.html

Words by Harold F. Mohn

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
The Hand of God is everywhere
For all of us to see;
Reflected in so many ways
Where ever we may be.

2
The trees in all their foliage green,
The flow'rs in colors bright,
The rainbow in the heavens above,
The dazzling sunshine bright...

Refrain:
These are but few of endless Wonders of the Hand
Of God, our Lord and creator.
God, Lord and Creator,
Omnipotent and grand.

3
The raindrops soft and gentle,
The crystal snowflakes white,
The moonbeams on the water,
The twinkling stars at night...

(Repeat Refrain)

Coda:
God, Lord and creator,
Omnipotent and grand!

THE JOY OF HIM

First performed in 1998 for my farewell Mass by St. Ann Church & Shrine Choir and St. Ann School School Choir (Metairie, LA)

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/thejoyofhim.html

Words by Edna Fontaine

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
If only I could share with you
The joy He brings to me
For He has bound His heart to mine
To beat in harmony.

2
Because I've learned to follow Him
In everything He asks.
He casts away my little fears,
Makes easy all my tasks.

Refrain:
I've learned from Him what I must know
To live and share each day:
The gifts of faith and hope and love
He yearns to give away.

3
He talks with me and sits with me
Near waters that are still.
He asks of me to bring Him souls
To carry out His will.

THE LIGHT BEYOND

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/thelightbeyond.html

Words by Vi B. Chevalier

Music and piano arrangement by TQ Solis, Jr.

Performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
When somber (oops!) clouds of steely grey
Cast shadows o'er your heart and way,
Look up beyond the darkened sky
Where tints of blue will soon drift by.

2
Look up and know that in God's plan
No sparrow falls nor, too, a man
Without His watch,
Without His love.
Have faith, believe, trust Him above.

Refrain:
For from the dark is born the light,
A ray of hope, a beacon bright
To warm your heart and help you through.
Rejoice and know God's there with you.

(Repeat 2)

THE LITTLE THINGS

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/thelittlethings.html

Words by Kathryn Wiesenhoefer

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Thank you, Lord, for "little things"
Like rays of hope a smile can bring,
A clasping of a helping hand,
The soothing words "I understand."

2
The warmth of sunshine after rain,
A sign of comfort after pain!
A friend who "stays" through trials and tears,
The peace they give to calm my fears.

3
For all His mercy and His love
When prayers are answered from above.
Oh, thank you, Lord, for "little things"
That help us soar on eagles wings.

THE LORD IS MY TRUE SHEPHERD

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/thelordismytrueshepherd.html

Based on Psalm 23 (76 76 D)

Words by Omer Westendorf

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
The Lord is my true shepherd,
My needs and wants He knows;
He feeds me in green pastures
And there gives me repose.

2
He leads me to cool waters
Where He refreshes me;
Along safe paths He guides me,
True to His name is He.

(Interlude)

3
Though I should walk in darkness
No evil would I fear;
Your rod and staff give comfort
For you are ever near.

4
You spread a sumptuous banquet
In sight of all my foes;
With oil You do annoint me,
My cup now overflows.

(Interlude)

5
His goodness and His kindness
Shall ever follow me;
His house shall be my dwelling
For all eternity.

6
Give praise to God the Father,
To Christ His only Son
And to the Holy Spirit -
True God in essence One.

(Interlude)

THE PATH OF LIFE

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/thepathoflife.html

New Orleans Dixieland Jass

Words by Kate Watkins Furman

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
When walking down the path of life
Remember what I say
That every man must feel the thorns
That grow along the way.

Refrain:
[Yes/And], every soul will stumble
For every man is weak
And the road of life uncertain;
It's prospects often bleak.

2
But always give a helping hand:
A word of love, a smile
To help the soul beside you walk
Across each weary mile.

(Repeat Refrain)

3
For love will cause the sun to shine
And everywhere you go
The painful thorns less noticed
As the roses bloom and grow.

(Repeat Refrain 2x)

Coda:
It's prospects often bleak!

THE PERFECT GIFT

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/theperfectgift.html

Music inspired by the song I learned in high school, SETTING PEOPLE FREE

Words by Laina Owen

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

Refrain:
We live and learn in this old world
And as we older grow
Still more and more we realize
It's so little that we know.

(Repeat)

1
There's one thing that we wish we knew
It's where and when to speak
And how to say the things we feel,
To help the poor and weak.

(Repeat Refrain)

2
So many times we want to talk
But don't know what to say,
To give someone the strength he needs
to help him on his way.

(Repeat Refrain)

3
If God would grant one perfect gift
To one so small and weak,
The thing I'd ask is just to know
When and where and how to speak.

(Repeat Refrain)

Coda:
It's so little that we know!

Words by Marion Schoeberlein

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
One perfect song our hearts can sing,
One air that's crystal clear,
One melody of love sublime
With charm for every ear.

2
One perfect song our tongues can frame
Of goodness, deep and true;
Of seeking and of sacrifice,
Of mercy, ever new.

3
O Christ, our singing is of Thee;
To Thee our hearts belong;
Thou art that perfect melody
Of life's triumphant song.

THE PRAYER PERFECT

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/theprayerperfect.html

Words by James Whitcomb Riley

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Dear Lord, kind Lord, gracious Lord, I pray.
Thou wilt look on all I love tenderly today!
Weed their hearts of weariness, scatter every care
Down a wake of angel wings winnowing the air.

(Interlude)

2
Bring unto the sorrowing all release from pain;
Let the lips of laughter overflow again
And with all the needy, O divide, I pray,
This vast treasure of content that is mine today.

Words by Gene Appleby

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
This is the season when the earth
Slumber 'neath her quilt of snow;
When little bulbs make ready
For the day they'll sprout and grow.

2
This is the season when the stars
Are crystal jewels of light
And moonlight filters through the trees
Radiantly bright.

3
This is the season of repose
For nature's growing things;
Exquisite world without a flaw
Our God so richly brings.

(Interlude)

(Repeat all)

THIS IS THE DAY

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/thisistheday.html

Words by Michael Dubina

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
This is the day the Lord has made
To bless the earth with sun and shade
And grace the life of you and me
With joys of holy ecstacy.

2
So let us join in His embrace
And prove deserving of His grace;
By sharing Christian gifts of heart
That are the blessings He imparts.

3
Let this be day of joy and love
That honors Him and God above;
And bears no trace of human greed
That steals from me so you succeed.

4
Let's live it as it's meant to be
With heaven's gifts to you and me
And live and love in Christian ways
That praise the Lord and praise this day.

THOSE WHO CARE

This poem was first given to me in 1991 by Enola Richard, one of our parent-chaperones, during a youth retreat for St. Rita Parish C.Y.O. (Harahan, LA) somewhere near Hammond, Louisiana. I first recorded this song in 1994 (Dear Jesus Album) and then re-record it in 1996 or 1997

1
As silently as sunrise comes
The days flow into years -
As silently as sunrise comes -
For those whose hearts care.

(Repeat)

2
And some are filled with happiness
And some are drenched in tears.
But it is always good to know
That there are those who care
Who may today lift up your name
With love in fervent prayer.

(Repeat all)

(Interlude)

(Repeat 2)

TO OUR LADY

This song-prayer was composed per request of Mrs. Stassi (may she rest in peace) who used to work at our Religious Bookstore when I was stationed at St. Ann Catholic Church & National Shrine in Metairie, LA from 1994-1998

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/toourlady.html

Text: Anonymous

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Lovely Lady, dressed in blue,
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
Tell me what to say!
Did you lift Him up sometimes
Gently on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way
Mother does to me?
Did you hold His hand at night?
Did you ever try...

2
Telling stories of the world?
O! And did He cry?
Do you really think He cares
If I tell Him things,
Little things that happen?
And do the Angel's wings make a noise?
And can He hear me if I speak low?
Does He understand me now?
Tell me, for you know...

3
Lovely Lady, dressed in blue,
Teach us how to pray!
God was just your little boy
And you now the way!

TODAY

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/today.html

Words by Michael Dubina

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Yesterday has come and gone
And never more will be;
Tomorrow's dawn is grace of God
That may not light for me.

Refrain 1:
But I still have today to live
Today belongs to me
And I must live each precious hour
The best that I can be.

2
I can't recall to better live
The day that passed away
And can't be sure God means for me
To try another day.

Rerain 2:
So all I have is just today
This tiny breath of time
To do and say what best endears
Each treasured love of mine.

UP & DOWN

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/upanddown.html

Words by Hope Oberhelman

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Up and down is how life goes
With days all full of care,
But God will fill us with new hope
If we call on Him in prayer.

2
Up and down is how life goes,
We look to God above
And no matter what our problems are
He will bless us with His love.

3
Up and down is how life goes,
We search for gentle peace.
So let us reach out to the Lord
And He will grant us sweet release.

4
Up and down is how life goes
But no matter what we do
The Lord will be there by our side
And His strength will see us through.

The Lord will be there by our side
And His strength will see us through!

WE NEED CHRIST

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/weneedchrist.html

Words by Loise Pinkerton Fritz

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
We need the sun that shines by day,
The moon that shines by night.
And, too, we need each breath of air,
But mostly we need Christ!

2
We need the water that we drink,
The food to keep us live;
We need the clothes upon our backs
But mostly, we need Christ.

3
We need some friends to share life's path,
We need our family ties;
Although we need each one of these
Above all we need Christ!

Coda:
Above all we need Christ!
Above all we need Christ!

WHAT GOD HAS MADE

All of creation is for all creatures God has created and we have a grave responsibility of keeping it safe and livable for our children and our children's children and the rest of the future inhabitants of this universe. A legacy handed on to be handed down for others more!

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/whatgodhasmade.html

Words by Michael Dubina

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
What God has made is meant to be
For all the world to hear and see
And grace each span of land and sea
With life and love and majesty.

2
But we must do what must be done
To keep His treasures, everyone,
And save for those who are to come -
The wonders He has built and done!

WHEN BIRDS BEGIN TO SING

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/whenbirdsbegintosing.html

Words by Sancie-Earman King

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Each day should bring us promise
That we can start anew
When sun is on horizon
And grass is wet with dew.

2
For life with all its mishaps
Is like a lengthy day
With many smiles and teardrops
To help us pave the way.

3
If only we could realize
Why God wants us to start
Each day with prayer and praising
That we might touch His heart.

4
So let's begin our prayer time
As birds begin to sing
That we might find our haven
Beneath the Father's wing!

Coda:
Beneath the Father's wing!
Beneath the Father's wing!

WHEN DAWNS THE SUN

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/whendawnsthesun.html

Words by Sancie Earman King

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Our Father knows, when dawns the sun
The time for singing birds has come;
And it is then He dries our tears
For He who comforts, also cheers!

2
Thus, tho' the night has been quite long
God's love can soak the soul with song
And He shall darkened clouds erase
That we might see His smiling Face!

WHEN DAY IS DONE

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/whendayisdone.html

Words by Richard E. Reybolt

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
This day so full of promise
Has slowly slipped away
Like dying coals upon the fire
Where logs of oak once lay.

(Repeat)

Refrain:
Some victories, some losses
With work yet to be done,
People who will need me,
Struggles to be won.

2
So I kneel before my bed
To thank God for this day.
I ask for nothing but His grace
That love might light my way.

3
Gone forever is this day
Content I've done my best
I hand it over now to God
And seek His peaceful rest.

WHEN THE SNOWBIRD SINGS

With special personal permission from Kate Watkins Furman herself. Thanks, Kate, for this truly inspiring words of God's nature's wonder

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/whenthesnowbirdsings.html

Words by Kate Watkins Furman

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
The snowbird sings his winter song
And sings it merrily,
When frost is sparkling in the sun
There on the holly tree.

2
The lovely song of tinkling bells
Is bright and sweet to hear,
And like the white and silent snow
Falls softly on the ear.

(Repeat 1)

3
So tiny snowbird sing your song
And bless this icy dawn,
My heart beats to your melody
Long after you are gone!

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/whispersoftheheart.html

Words by Edna Fontaine

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
Today I thank you, Lord
For all the joys You bring
For rainbows in the sky
For flowers in the spring.

2
For warmth of gentle rain
That falls from up above
For wealth of little prayers
That fill my need for love.

Refrain:
You are so kind and gentle, Lord
Forgive the faults in me
And keep me ever close to You
Until I come to Thee.

3
For friends who fail me not
When I am in some need
When my despair is plain to see
Are there my soul to feed.

4
Today I thank you, Lord
For all the joys You bring
For rainbows in the sky
For flowers in the spring.

YOU'RE NEVER ALONE

Written while stationed at St. Nicholas de Tolentine Cathedral in Cabanatuan City, Philippines in 1985. This was my first ever attempt at Art Songs

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/youreneveralone.html

Words by Helen Steiner-Rice

Music by J. Roel Lungay

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
You are never alone
God has helped you before
And is ready and willing to help you once more.
So with faith in your heart
Reach out for His hand
And accept what He sends.

2
For our Father in heaven
Always knows what is best;
Your life will be blessed
Always remember that whatever betides you
You are never alone
For God is beside you. Amen.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE

http://christianartsongs.blogspot.com/2009/04/yourenotalone.html

Words by Clay Harrison

Music by TQ Solis, Jr.

Arranged and performed by Fr. J. Roel Lungay

1
You're not alone when troubles come
And your heart is beating like a drum.
You're not alone through sorrow's night
When nothing seems to go just right.

Refrain 1:
The Savior waits to hear from you
And give you strength for all you do.
He knows the secrets of your heart
And He can make your fears depart.

2
You're not alone without a guide
He sees each tear you've ever cried.
God comforts those who seek His way
And knows our hearts before we pray.

Refrain 2:
His perfect peace and endless love
Fall like feathers from above.
There is no cross to large to bear
You're not alone for Christ is there!
