In the year 2000, the University of Bohol Research Center was commissioned to do a base-line survey for the youth of Bohol. A question was asked, "Did it ever happen that because of extreme necessity you were forced to sell your honor just to earn money?" Among the 19,200 Boholano youth surveyed, 9.32% answered "YES."

Another question was asked, Are there businesses of ill-repute (Example: Prostitution house) here in your place?" (No=90.79%, Maybe = 5.36%, yes = 9.06%).

The highest response at 30.19% was not from Panglao, Bohol but from an interior town of Bohol. We do not know whether the situation has changed that is why we plan to do another survey this year.

The result of the survey was unexpected so this writer made some verifications. It was found out that the business alluded was like a Japanese Geisha School. Young girls were trained how to entertain guest or customers by conversation, dancing, singing, etc. The graduates were for œexport, but they have to practice with local customers. (Note: The informant as an agent and part owner. He was talking freely to this writer not knowing that I already had the data.) Practicing with local customers made the youth cognizant of the existence of the business but officially the town officials did not know.

In terms of drug addiction, our Year 2000 survey revealed that 20% of the youth in Bohol were indulging in illegal drugs. The town of Candijay, Bohol was very unusual. The youth respondents said 67% but the adults said zero (0%).

With the intensive drive against drug addiction, we plan to verify the result of the campaign. We hope somebody will fund the research so we can survey extensively like the 19,200 youth and 7,600 adult samples as done in year 2000.
