Our topic—A hydraulic water ram is the device that uses the movement of water through a drive pipe to pump a portion of this water to a location much higher in elevation than the site of the ram and the source of water. It has no engine requires no electricity or solar power or windmills. It has the unique ability of pumping water up hill using the water itself as a power source. Friends this is not the duke or wishful thinking, it is a fact, believe me, I know the only moving parts are two valve's in operation, water flows from the source dawn a “Drive Pipe” to the Ram. The sources can be a spring, waterfall, fast flowing river, dam on each cycle, A valve closes causing the water in the “Drive Pipe” to suddenly stop, this creates a “water –hammer “ effect and high pressure at the ram. This pressure is utilized to force a small amount of water through a one way valve into the delivery pipe and the cycle starts over. In effect, the ram use's the energy in a large amount of water falling a short distance to lift a small amount of water a great distance. With good design, the ram is a highly efficient device when panning your hydraulic ram installation, you will need to know certain factor. 1.The vertical falls in feet of the drive head of water; 2.The vertical height to which water must be pumped; 3.The length of the drive pipe, 4.The length of the delivery pipe; 5.( critical) The quantity of water available to operate the ram.
