Golden Seniors Club in Tagbilaran on the go

Retired mentors of DepEd, Tagbilaran City District are not left behind if we speak of social and spiritual activities, they constantly find time to devote a few hours of their treasured days, to meet and share with each other, the latest happenings and wholesome ideas about anything under the sun.

Organized five years ago by the retired teachers of Tagbilaran City Central School, the club meets every month, to celebrate birthdays or members jointly, within the month. This year the membership reaches out to retirees of other schools in the city district.

In January 2007, Vic Torralba and Lita Dumalag treated their peers to a dinner at JJ’s Dimsum, the late Vita Pilongo celebrated her last natal day in February at her residence, Leonor dela Torre and Citas Ingles held theirs at Chicken Ati-Atihan last March, while April celebrators, PRecy Somosot and Indai Rara invited the group, to a sumptuous lunch at Somosot’s residence.

Club Pres. Lita Palileo, Doris Tadena, and Nene Ocarol held a birthday bash at Saya’s Restaurant last May, on the same month the mentors tendered a Despedida Party to Vic and Leonor Torralba, who left for USA for a long overdue and much needed relaxation in the land of milk and honey, where their two daughters work and earn green bucks.

On Saturday, Aug. 25, 2006 the group trooped to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church to attend on evening mass, during which an offering for the eternal repose of the souls of departed members, Manuel Palileo, Emiliana Estillore, Jovita Pilongo, and Ricarda Torralba was made. The group proceeded to Palileo’s residence for a dinner, courtesy of August celebrators Leonor Torralba, Luis Cabilla, and the late Manuel Palileo.

The affair was graced by balikbayans Fred Malaran and the ever-generous Yolie Bustrillos, who flew in from USA to attend a class reunion. As usual, Yolie shared some give-aways in cash and in kind to the mentors who endear her unequalled generosity.

New club members include Emma Fabio, Alie Karaan, Chita Jao, Babie Lim, and Diana Ampong while US-based members are Laling Honculada, Bening Karaan, Nanie Estrera, Rufa Bantugan, Naty T. Johnson and Yolie Bustrillos.

September birthday celebrators agree to hold their joint treat at BAK-STIQ Grill and Restaurant. Who says, the retired teachers of Tagbilaran City District are confined in their shells? You are wrong because they’re always on the go. For more updates about the Golden Seniors Club as the days roll by, the Bohol Chronicle is yours to peruse.
