According to the 2000 census, there are a total of 1,137,268 Boholanos or Bol-anon, as the residents of Bohol call themselves. The same census also states that Bohol has 209,588 households with an average household size of 5.41 persons, significantly higher than the national average of 4.99. The annual growth rate is 2.92%, higher than the national growth rate of 2.36%. With this growth rate, Bohol's population will double in 24 years. Life expectancy at birth is estimated at 68.19 for the males and 72.93 for the females for the period 2000–2005. [3] This is lower than that of Cebu but higher than that of Negros Oriental and Siquijor. (wikipedia.org)

Corella is the smallest town of Bohol. Most of the people in the early 40"s migrated to mIndanao in search of a greener pasture. The first man from Canangca-an who lead to look for  land was Catalino  Sayon ,commonly called Iyo Enong. When he found a fertile land suited for farming , he invited more to join them. There are more  Corellahanon in Davao that those left in Bohol. We populated and built a new town in Davao called New Corella, a fast growing and progressive community. Many Corelahanon owns big tracks of land in New Corella and other neighboring municipalities. Its because we are hardworking with strong vision and determination in life.

Mr. Daray,

Long before that, Boholanos migrated to Mindanao, Luzon and to other Visayas provinces to escape from the forced labor imposed by the Spanish priests in building our centuries-old churches and cathedrals.

In the early l970's many graduates of BSEEd and BSE went Davao to look for teachig position.  They can not be accommodated for employment in the division  Bohol. Teaching position was very competitive  during that time. . Since there were not enough teachers in Davao, they landed teaching  position easily .  Technical graduates of BSAT with three year college were very in demand to teach industrial arts. That is why many teachers in Mindanao came from Bohol. They were the first to open some schools   in far-flung areas. They built small nipa and bamboo school building with the help of the natives. Teachers are the unsung  heroes of today. But this time, teaching position is very competitive here in Digos  City division where I am teaching now.

As what  my lolo told me about Bohol, he said it derives from the word buho or hole or buho-buho or bohul-bohul in Tagalog  because  there are also many holes in Bohol. I  read history books of Bohol. It derives from the word Bool where  it was the set of the blood compact between Legaspi and Sikatuna in 1565. There is also a place in Tagbilaran called Booy. Some pronounced it  Boow.Which of these is correct?  Let us establish fact on this word Bohol, the famous tourist destination in the country today.

There were lots of stories as to where the word Bohol came from. I also read what you read, fdaray, that Bohol may have been named after the place called Bo'ol and or it came from the word buho=buho or holes referring to the caves and caverns.  But favorite is the one that says, Bohol is from the word, also, Bo'ol which is a local name of a kind of tree.  I read this in the doctoral dissertation of Lumin B. Tirol in 1975.  This make more sense to me because we have the penchant of calling our place after a tree.  My barrio is one example - Manga.

Yes, there is a place called Booy and there's also a place called Bool.
