Bohol - specifically the towns of Loboc and Corella - guns for two World Guinness Book of Records distinctions this December during an event called "Yam Gin Festival."

The town of Loboc featuring Bohol farmer wives will attempt to have the world's largest fresh ginger muffin Christmas tree at the Loboc auditorium.

Ginger, a product with a large demand in China, is extensively grown in Loboc. The historic event is strongly backed up by Mayor Leon Calipusan and the town legislature.

On the other hand, ubi-growing town of Corella will concoct the world's longest "ubi jam" chain, an event endorsed by Mayor Vito Rapal and the town assembly.

Tourists, food growers, government officials and media have been invited to the affair.

Scheduled to attend the festivities are the Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap and Francisco " Bong" Ramos III and tourism Secretary Joseph H. Durano.

President GMA and her family have also been invited to the festival.

The festival set for December 22 - 29 also aims at environmental awareness of the need for support for biofuels and the growth of agricultural products in Bohol.

According to Ramos, DA will distribute free seedlings for vegetable, fruits, trees and ornamental plants. An informative seminar on the propagation of Jatropha Curcas will also be conducted.

Agriculture products will also be set for display during the festival.

The Project is managed and conceptualized by the Center for Continuing Cultural Exchange (CCCE) in cooperation with the municipalities of Corella and Loboc. Among its major sponsors is Nestle Phils.

At the helm of the "Yam Gin Festival" in former Assumption School (Makati) professor and administrative officer Marietta Biliran (of this city) as Executive Director of CCCE and assisted by Maria Ulfa Obrowski, program Director and Cultural Exchange Consultant.

Other details of the festival will be provided in the coming days, according to Biliran.
