Mike I wonder if this Bajao or sea gypsy earn enough money for food.I notice not all people throw coins on them, seems like everyone is in hurry to get out of the ship. When we went to cebu with my 3 year old son last 2005 riding a ferry from bohol we actually see them in cebu.We throw coins and bottle of water, chocolates, anything we can throw and whats funny we are the last person to get out in the ferry.
Mga Bajao man sad nang Manglilimos sa Tagbilaran di ba?I always see them peeking throw the window of mcdonald and always make sure I will buy food for them.Para makatilaw sad sila kung unsa ang lami sa mcdonald.I send lots of used cloths the hand me down from my kids via balikbayan boxes and give some to the Bajao too.Hope they use them.

Maybe it has to do with one's religion. You know what I mean.

Badjao is a way of life of one of the Filipino tribe. They are happy and contented. They live a descent life.

Noel Castro, a historian, claims that the origins of the Badjao are uncertain. According to a legend, they came from the shores of Johore, Indonesia, where they had already been living in clusters of houseboats. Anthropologist H. Arlo Nimmo (1968) believes, however, that the Badjao were originally of the land-based Samal group but branched off into boat dwellers as a result of their occupation. This practice might have subsequently spread to the area around Malaysia. Another theory is that the Badjao were originally boat dwellers who eventually built stilt houses near fertile fishing grounds.

Spanish and American influence on Badjao social and cultural development has been virtually nil due to two factors: the Badjao live in the territory of the Muslim Filipinos, although they are also the least influenced by Islam; and they are itinerant travelers.

Attempts have been made to help these people, and boy, there were quite many already.

But seemingly, all these attempts are just as insubtantial as uot understanding of these sea gypsies.

In my own opinion, their only fault is that they are born Badjaos.

I mean, had they been born anybody else, they would not be a problem i suppose.

i was with them swimming in jagna port when i was a kid. but cant be friended with them they seem wierd and aloof. theyre the one asking for coins from the passengers and they show their swimming skills in chasing these coins.

kuyaw mo free dive ning mga tawhana ug mamana. ang problema lang kay ang isda nga ilang kuha amoy ihi daw. kaya walang bumibili. kwawa.......
