Waterless villages in Davao Oriental receive access to potable water

MATI CITY, Davao Oriental, Jan. 12 (PNA) -- Some 2,873 households in nine waterless villages of Davao Oriental province received access to clean and safe drinking water when newly-completed Potable Water Systems (PWSs) were turned over to the provincial government on Thursday.

The completed PWSs were considered level-two water systems that were funded under the various programs of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (Pamana) program of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP); the Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig (Salintubig); and the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB).

The water systems were implemented by the provincial government of Davao Oriental under the leadership of Governor Nelson Dayanghirang with the support of the office of first district Representative Corazon Malanyaon.

Among the villages that were provided with access to drinking water include Barangays Maganda and Tubaon in Tarragona town; Poblacion, PM Sobrecarey, and San Luis in Caraga town; and Batawan, Binondo, San Isidro, and Campawan in Baganga town.

The water projects had a total allocation of P22.8 million.

The project implementation was started during the previous administration of Malanyaon when she was still the governor of the province. The implementation was continued by the present leadership of Governor Dayanghirang.

“Water has direct impact in the lives of the people,” said Malanyaon, adding that access to potable water has been a priority project of the government as it recognizes water supply as one of the important means to improve lives of the people especially those in disadvantaged areas.

For his part, Dayanghirang hoped that the new water systems will help accelerate economic growth in poor communities in the province as it will provide new opportunities for the residents.

DILG provincial director Yvette Sunga also witnessed the turning over of the water projects to the community beneficiaries.

Sunga encouraged the recipient barangays to create their own water service association to take charge of the maintenance of the water service.

“This project is a testament of the government’s commitment in providing communities their utmost need which is water,” she said. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
