Summit to encourage Iloilo youth leaders to become partners in eradicating illegal drugs
ILOILO CITY, Jan. 12 (PNA) -- A summit is slated this January 18 in Iloilo province to encourage youths, especially young leaders to become partners in eradicating illegal drugs.
The "Youth Summit against Illegal Drugs" is facilitated by the Police Advisory Council for Police Transportation and Development (PAC-PTD) in partnership with the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
Assistant Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 6 Raul Anlocotan and currently the president of the PAC-PTD on Thursday said that youths are very susceptible to illegal drugs.
Thus, “there is also a need to collaborate with them, especially youth leaders in ensuring that their colleagues and friends will not be holding on to illegal drugs.â€
He also extended invitations for all local chief executives in the province to support the initiative in response to the call of President Rodrigo Roa-Duterte that local government units must be actively involved in the fight against illegal drugs.
Mayors are urged to send 10 to 15 delegates from their town and shoulder the Php350 registration fee of each participant.
Meanwhile, Mayor Christian Sorongon of the town of New Lucena said the summit will appraise youth leaders of various activities to make their campaign against illegal drugs effective and replicate them in their schools and communities.
“With this, we are bringing the campaign against illegal drugs down to the grassroots level,†he said.
National Youth Commission (NYC) chairman Aiza Seguerra is among the expected guests to grace the event.
The summit will be held at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas. (PNA)
