NURSE-SOLON CALLS ON CHED, SUCs TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE CPD TRAINING TO REGISTERED PROFESSIONALS
As a registered professional, I am concerned about and affected by the Continuing Professional Development Act and its updating training requirements for the renewal of license.
While I agree that the updating training is necessary, the cost of training can be prohibitive to many who can barely make ends meet. The training cost is often expensive because CPD providers are nearly all private firms or private associations.
Only a few are government institutions and state universities and colleges (SUCs). The PRC IRR on RA 10912 allows government agencies to provide CPD.
To address the concerns of registered nurses and other registered professionals, the solution I see is for the Commission on Higher Education to task or work with the SUCs for the provision of CPD at minimal and comparatively lower cost compared to the private sector counterparts.
Some SUCs have training institutes and extension centers. A CHED memorandum or a Board Resolution by some SUCs would suffice for the provision of CPD training.
Some SUCs have Open University units or modes. OU can also be one way to deliver or provide CPD training.
I implore the CHED and the SUCs to act swiftly on this matter. (END)
