DAVAO CITY, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- Davao City flies the Philippine and Japan flag in all city streets for the visit of Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe, who are expected to arrive in the city around 9:45 tonight.
For his Davao visit, Prime Minister Abe together with President Rodrigo Duterte will lead a meet and greet event with the business sector at the Waterfront Hotel followed by the ceremonial naming of a two-year-old Philippine Eagle at the garden area of the Waterfront following an investment forum.
Mrs. Abe will head to Mintal village, the city’s known “Little Tokyo†where many Japanese settled during the pre-war years.
Mr. Abe is also scheduled to visit President Duterte's humble home in Dona Luisa Village.
Before leaving the city in the afternoon, both the prime minister and Mrs. Abe will visit the city’s Philippine-Japanese school Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku.
On Wednesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced it is ready with the security preparation for the state visit of Prime Minister Abe. Police personnel have been deployed in all routes of the Japanese leader including the village of Mintal in the third district.
DCPO Director Michael John Dubria told reporters during the AFP-PNP press corps on Wednesday that DCPO police teams will provide the necessary security assistance to the Presidential Security Group (PSG), which is on top of Mr. Abe’s visit to the city.
This the first state visit of the Japanese premier in the city to reciprocate the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte in Japan in October 2016.
Mr. Duterte was invited by Prime Minister Abe when the two met in Laos in September 2016 on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
