So that overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will not experience a "duck out of water feeling" during their first foreign posting, Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro Jr. said he will push for the establishment of facilities or centers where prospective migrant workers will be given cultural and employment laws of the country they are going to.
Teodoro made the statement in his sortie in Laguna on Wednesday when asked what reforms he would implement to ensure the protection of the country’s OFW labor force which presently stands at eight million.
"The establishment of such facilities will ensure that our OFWs will not be exploited or pushed around by their employers. Besides this, the cultural seminars will also enable them to mix freely with the natives of the country they will work in," the 1989 Philippine Bar Examination topnotcher said in Filipino.
Teodoro said that the centers should be put under direct supervision of the Department of Foreign Affairs as this could readily come up with cultural and employment briefing due to its diplomatic contacts.- PNA
