Construction of ‘skyway’ in Cagayan De Oro pushedCAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, March 9 (PNA) -– A member of the legislative council here is pushing for the construction of a “skyway†to ease the burgeoning traffic in the city’s
urban center.
Councilor George Goking, chair of the council's committee on commerce and trade, said Thursday that he would ask the city engineer to work on the plan in coordination with the Road and Traffic Administration (RTA).
Goking said that the construction of the skyway would ease the city’s major thoroughfares of horrendous traffic that commuters and pedestrians experience during peak hours.
The councilor proposed that the “skyway†become an alternate road for J.R. Borja Street, the longest street in the city that traverses from the city’s west district in Barangay Carmen to the junction of Barangay Gusa in the city’s east district.
Goking said that he wants the “skyway†to start in Barangay Patag that would pass above Barangay Carmen and J. R. Borja Street towards the junction in Barangay Gusa.
The idea of constructing a “skyway†was originally conceived by former Rep. Rufus Rodrigues in 2015.
Rodriguez had proposed a two-lane skyway from Barangay Patag to Barangay Gusa with an estimated cost of PHP 2.6 billion.
Rodriguez said that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) had approved the proposed budget during the previous administration. (PNA)
