Cebu gov fires provincial jail warden after drugs, gadgets found in inspectionCEBU CITY, March 1 (PNA) -- Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III on Wednesday ordered acting Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) warden Dr. Gil Macato relieved of his post after the “Greyhound Operation†in the facility yielded contraband.
Davide said he is relieving Macato of the position effective Wednesday although the governor has yet to talk to Macato.
Davide said Roberto “Bobby†Legazpi, Capitol Civil Security Unit head, will take over Macato’s position.
“I have not talked to Dr. Macato, I’ve been trying to reach him but I’m relieving him effective today (Wednesday) of his duties there as acting jail warden,†he said.
“I’m putting in Mr. Bobby Legazpi to take over the facilities effective today,†he said.
The surprise Greyhound Operation was conducted by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 at the CPDRC at 1 a.m. Tuesday.
PDEA 7 Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz said they seized 19 medium-sized packs of white crystals believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, more commonly known as shabu, more than 80 cell phones, cash amounting to PHP92,000, bladed weapons, laptops and notebooks containing lists of creditors.
Ruiz said Davide tapped them to search the jail, which has more than 3,000 inmates. (PNA)
