BFP wants fire station in all Iloilo LGUs
ILOILO CITY, Jan. 13 (PNA) -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) expressed hope to see all local government units (LGUs) in Iloilo province with a fire station each.
Provincial Fire Marshal Superintendent Jose Filomeno Salolog on Friday revealed that about 15 towns in the province have no fire station.
To address this, he urged local government units (LGUs) to donate a lot so that BFP could request a budget from their central office for the construction of a building.
The BFP is spending about Php4 million for the construction of one fire station.
But even if some LGUs are without a fire station, Salolog said that all 42 towns and one component city are equipped with firetrucks. Two, however, are under repair.
In the meantime, they are currently negotiating with the town of San Dionisio for the LGU to donate its firetruck to the BFP so that the latter could already request for the construction of a fire station. A site for the station has already been assured by the LGU.
If all towns will have their own firetruck, Salolog said that it will “give comfort to clients and BFP personnel†as they can extend “more efficient service to the public.â€
On the other hand, BFP will be holding lectures and seminars this year to intensify its fire prevention campaign.
Salolog said that there is a need to strengthen this campaign in the province since they have noted a significant increase in the number of fire incidents last year, specifically grassfire due to the El Niño phenomenon. (PNA)
