American Dream... Is it really a good dream?
« on: November 26, 2007, 08:20:55 AM »
This is posted in Friendster bulletin. Do you agree?

Akala ng mga tao na nasa Pilipinas
kapag nasa America ka...

Akala nila madami ka ng pera. Ang
totoo, madami kang utang, dahil
credit card lahat ang gamit mo sa
pagbili mo ng mga gamit mo. Kailangan
mo gumamit ng credit card para magka-
credit history ka, kase pag hindi ka
umutang o wala kang utang, hindi ka
pagkakatiwalaa n ng mga kano. Pag wala
kang credit card, ibig sabihin wala
kang kapasidad magbayad.

Walang
jeepney,tr icycle o padyak sa America.

Akal a nila masarap ang buhay dito sa
America. Ang totoo, puro ka trabaho
kase pag di ka nagtrabaho, wala kang
pangbayad ng bills mo kotse, credit
card, ilaw, tubig, insurance, bahay
at iba pa. Hindi ka na pwedeng tumambay
sa kapitbahay kse busy din sila
maghanap buhay pangbayad ng bills
nila.
Ak ala nila masaya ka kase nagpadala
ka ng picture mo sa Disney, Seaworld,
Six Flags, Universal Studios at iba
pang attractions. Ang totoo, kailangan
mo ngumiti kase nagbayad ka ng $70+
para makarating ka dun, kailangan mo
namnamin ang 10 hours na sweldo mong
pinangbayad sa tiket.

Akala nila malaki na ang kinikita mo
kase dolyar na sweldo mo. Ang totoo,
malaki pagpinalit mo ng peso, pero
dolyar din ang gastos mo sa America.
Ibig sabihin ang dolyar mong kinita
sa presyong dolyar mo din gagastusin.
Ang P15.00 na sardinas sa Pilipinas $
1.00 sa America, ang isang pakete ng
sigarilyo sa pilipinas P 40.00, sa
America $ 5.00, ang upa mo sa bahay
na P 10,000 sa pilipinas, sa America $
1,000.

mong kotse 5 taon mong huhulugan. Ang
bahay 30 taon mong huhulugan. Ibig sa
bihin, alipin ka ng bahay at kotse
mo.

Madaming naghahangad na makarating sa
America. Lalo na mga nurses, mahirap
maging normal na manggagawa sa
Pilipinas. Madalas pagod ka sa
trabaho. Pag dating ng sweldo mo,
kulang pa sa pagkain mo. Pero ganun
din sa ibang bansa katulad ng
America. Hindi ibig sabihin dolyar na
ang sweldo mo, yayaman ka na, kailangan
mo ding magbanat ng buto para
magsurvive ka sa ibang bansa. Isang
malaking sakripis yo ang pag alis mo
sa bansang pinagsilangan at malungkot
iwanan ang mga mahal mo sa buhay.Hindi
pinup ulot ang pera dito. Hindi ako
naninira ng pangarap, gusto ko lang
buksan ang bintana ng katotohanan

I have a friend who is in financial mess due to excessive spending to live up to this thing called American Dream.  But unlike in the column shared by Mike, what happend to my friend is her own doing and not so much on the pressure from home.  She wants to prove to our friends back home that she is successful here by showing pictures in Broadway plays almost every week, travel to other States, continue her vices of going to the beauty salons every week and now it's catching her up.  I told my other friend why doesn't she just stay in her place and read books if she knew she couldn't afford all these perks in life.  She had no answer but said she wanted to enjoy being here.  Oh well.

Bohol is growing and it's nice to see the changes slowly but surely but if we all stay as one we will get there all together at the same time.
Whether it be here or there or in Tim buck two we will survive keep your feeton the ground and your minds and hearts sound.

I have cousins who live in Vallejo!  I can't imagine having to travel to SF everyday what with the crazy traffic!

Cel, tama, bisan dili sayon atong panginabuhi dre, at least makatabang pa man gihapon ta sa ato. Mao lagi pod, dollars man pod atong gastos but the bottom life is, we have more opportunity to help our family back home if we are here than being in the Phils.  Sakripisyo jud nang kamingaw...

Naay mga Filipino friends namo dre, mag play sila'g mah jong when there's party pero ang taya nila kana ra pod ginagmay kay lingaw2x lang jud ba!

Naa jud koy gina wonder sa una pa kay as I said, halos tanan sa family sa akong Dad mahjonggero ug mahjonggera, why man ila pa nang i feel sa ilang thumb kon unsang dice ilang nakuha (salat ba tawag ana)?  pa thrilling lang na or there's a reason behind that?

Any kind of dream is good, basta dili lang ka maka offend sa laing tawo.

The 'American Dream' then is good, because it is built on a foundation of 'hard work'...

Hard work is a key ingredient (thought not the only one) in accomplishing one's goals, and realizing one's dreams...

Ang naka deperensya lang between the US ug sa atong nasud, mas commensurate ang reward for one's hard work, sa US kaysa Pinas. An ordinary employee who works hard and is good at his job is pretty much rewarded with the ability of being able to acquire material things that make life more comfortable/convenient; sa Pinas, you put in the same amount of hard work, and you hardly feel the so-called 'fruits of your labor'...

Mao jud, Ms. C2! Mao dayon, after two days gikan sweldo, wala naman pod money maghulat na pod sunod sweldo.

Ms Grazie: korek! mao pa lang pag sueldo, wa ra ka abot usa ka adlaw, nahanaw na...mag huwat na pud sunod sueldo...mabuhi baya ta sa atong sueldo sa Pinas, pero mao lagi pud, igo-igo ra jud sa very basic necessities...wala na'y bisan gamay nga extra matigom, in case of emergency...

Ms Willmerit: sagdi lang ug kapoy atong lawas sa trabaho, I've realized nga grateful jud ko nga at least dire, makakita pa ta trabaho. Sayon ra mo apply sa dept. store or fast-food joints, basta dili lang ta mamili ug trabaho dire, makakita jud ta ug work...sa Pinas, daghan kaayong mga college grads, pila na ka buwan luoy intawon sige pang apply, mag linya2x pa for interview, wala pa jud ka trabaho...nihit kaayo job opportunities.
