DOJ starts initial probe on raps vs 6 suspects nabbed in San Juan drug raid

MANILA, Jan. 3 (PNA) -- The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday conducted the preliminary investigation on the drug trafficking charges against six suspects including three Chinese nationals who were arrested in a raid in San Juan City which yielded some 500 kilos of shabu worth around PHP3 billion last December 23.

The three Chinese nationals Shi Gui Xiong, 44; Che Wen De alias Jackie Tan, 44; Wu Li Yong alias David Go, 44 and three other suspects Abdullah Jamal, 33; Salim Arafat, 19; and Rasher Jamal, 19, appeared before a panel of prosecutors in Department of Justice (DOJ) for submission of their counter affidavit on the charges of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 filed by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The three Filipino respondents submitted their counter-affidavits while the three Chinese nationals - were unable to submit answers to the charges.

The three Chinese nationals refused to be assisted by Public Attorney Office (PAO) as they opted to get a private lawyer.

During the hearing, the Chinese nationals however still did not have a private lawyer. With this, Assistant State Prosecutors Mary Jane Sytat and Ethel Rhea Suril gave them until the next hearing on Friday to submit their counter-affidavits through the assistance of a public attorney.

Meanwhile, through the assistance of PAO, the three Filipino respondents said in their counter affidavit denied the allegations of manufacture, trading, delivery, distribution, possession and transportation of illegal drugs.

They claimed that they just passed by the area where the raid was conducted and were just asked by an unknown person to drive the running, empty vehicle where they were later on arrested.

The NBI Task Force Against Illegal Drugs (TFAID) the complainant, served a search warrant to the suspects last Dec. 23 at the 309 Mangga Street corner Infanta in Barangay Little Baguio where they found plastic bags containing shabu.

After one month of surveillance, operatives confirmed the information and applied for a search warrant.

The suspects were caught inside the warehouse which they have been occupying for months.

Operatives found 500 kilos of shabu inside the wareshouse.

The suspects are currently detained at the NBI headquarters. (PNA)
