20 vessels register with PCG Cebu to join Sto. Nino fluvial procession
CEBU CITY, Jan. 12 (PNA) -- A total of 20 vessels have registered with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Cebu Station as of Thursday to join the fluvial procession of the Holy Image of the Senor Sto. Nino de Cebu on Saturday morning, Jan. 14.
Commander Dionlett Ampil, PCG Cebu Station commander, said Thursday was supposed to be the deadline for the registration of vessels joining the fluvial procession.
But Ampil said they will still accept registrants on Friday.
The fluvial procession will the Sto. Nino form Mandaue City to Pier 1 in Cebu City.
Ampil said they have informed all mariners that the entire Mactan channel will be closed to all sea vessels traffic starting at dawn on Saturday until the end of the fluvial procession.
Ampil said they are strictly enforcing security and safety measures for the fluvial procession, including the ban on firearms, fireworks and balloons.
He said marshals on speed boats will also be deployed for a quick response during emergencies, especially when a participating vessel sinks.
But Ampil said the holding of the fluvial procession will largely depend on the weather.
â€If the sea gets rough, we have to cancel the fluvial procession for the sake of the safety of participants,†he said.
Church officials said a motorcade from Mandaue City to Cebu City will be held if the fluvial procession is cancelled. (PNA)
