Making investment easy in Bohol
By Romy Tereul
Sunday Post

Six months before elections is a time for development projects to step aside to give way to partisan political activities.  That was before.  This time around it is different.  Could it have been caused by the early filing of certificates of candidacies for candidates?  Or are we seeing the birth of new era in politics?

Last week we saw politicians “stabbing” each other at the back.  We thought this week they would be  “killing” each other.  But no.  The rules of the game have changed in favour of a more sober approach to resolving controversies.

This is good because while everybody wants to be entertained and cheer on the players, it is a reality that we need to continue to move on to put in place the engines of development.

We would have wanted to see a more combative players knowing that the first blood, so to speak, has been drawn and spilled.  If things were of the old ways, any work for the people’s welfare would have stood still and partisan political activities taken over the whole situation.

But no, the old ways did not only stop.  The old ways did an about face and run away, for good, we hope.  Because of that the vacuum it left was immediately filled by things that benefit the people.

We are referring to the awaited result of the Aumentado-Chatto-Cajes political tiff that Boholanos thought signalled the start of the entertainment that Philippine political culture always give the people.  It is turning out that the initial bombs are being deliberately diffused so the unity that characterized the relationship of our political leaders in the horizon of Bohol will be sustained.

The governor chose the sober approach befitting the stature that he has attained in his political career unblemished by any defeat.  In so doing he got what he wanted -the CONA- and at the same time had time to work on the realization of projects that are among his legacies as Governor.

Again we are talking of the Bohol Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) which was launched last Friday with no less than Trade and Industry Secretary Peter Favila as guest of honor and speaker.  To the Boholanos that eclipsed the CONA brouhaha and even the peace and order problem in Maguindanao that merited a proclamation of Martial Law in that province.

For years Bohol and its leaders have been working to bring investors to Bohol to generate more jobs for the Boholanos so that they need not go to foreign lands because they have to but because they want to.

In the Bohol BOSS, investors will see and feel the sincerity of the Boholanos in inviting them.  It will make investing in Bohol as easy as coming to Bohol and as attractive as the tourist attractions of Bohol.  Almost like a copy of the National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (NERBAC), the Bohol BOSS will serve all the needs of the investors to invest in Bohol in one place and one building.

For the first time agencies of government who have something to do with setting up a business will be housed in one office to assist investors and businessmen be they local or foreign.

So election after all need not be a spoiler of development projects.  All it needs are good programs and determined leaders out to leave a legacy.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
