By the Sunday Post The 702nd Community Defense Center conducted medical missions last week in coordination with the 802nd Infantry Brigade and the local government units of
Mabini and
Batuan.
The activities were undertaken through the effort of 2Lt. Raulito Tago-on, officer-on-charge of the 702nd CDC and the 802nd IB under the command of Col. Raoul Reyes.
Representing the group of Reyes were Maj. Eduardo Malig-on, CMO officer; Col. Joseph Sevilla, commander of the Technical Service Brigade, AFPRESCOM, AFP; Col. Armando Dancel of the Philippine Army, group commander of the 7RCDG ARESCOM.
The soldiers conducted the joint medical missions in barangay San Jose, municipality of Mabini on December 1 and in barangay Rizal, municipality of Batuan on December 2.
The free services included surgical and medical consultations, dental, circumcision, haircut, and reflexology. Free medicines were also distributed to the indigenous residents in the two barangays.
The activities benefited around 1,000 indigent patients, enough for the mayors and other public officials of the two towns to express gratitude to the Reservist Medical Team, 802nd Infantry Brigade and other volunteers for their unselfish cooperation in the accomplishment of such humanitarian endeavor.
The current thrust of the Philippine Army under the RRFD Plan focuses on developing the Reserved Force Components to support the Internal Security Operation (ISO) and to participate in socio-economic development activities and other non-traditional roles.
On this, the group of reservists plays a vital role in CMO activities through organized reservist teams such as medical professionals for MEDCAP or legal reservists for legal services and continuing efforts for the readiness against disaster relief and rescue operations.
