(PNA) -- The military and police have sent peacekeeping force in a remote village in North Cotabato to prevent the escalation of hostilities involving two Muslim clans.
Lt. Col. Benjamin Hao, 6th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the 602nd Infantry Brigade under Colonel Alejandro Estomo has sent peacekeepers after two warring families, who are both identified with two large Moro rebel groups, figured in a clash since Sunday.
Sr. Supt. Norberto Batislaong, North Cotabato police director, said the conflict involving Commander Kadi Daud of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Commander Magalona Ampatuan, village chair of Barangay Salat and affiliated with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), was due to land dispute.
Several families have fled to safer grounds after both sides traded bullets.
Quoting reports from the field, police said negotiations are underway to settle the conflict peacefully.
The Army's 57th Infantry Battalion has sent a team of peacekeepers out to prevent both sides from trading bullets. (PNA)
