Police authorities have tightened security in various government facilities and public places here and the neighboring province of South Cotabato following reports on alleged plans by a notorious kidnap-for-ransom group to launch retaliatory terror attacks in the area.
Senior Supt. Cedric Train, city police director, said Monday they placed all their units on heightened alert to avert supposed plans by a group of kidnappers to spring from a police detention facility at least seven of their comrades who were arrested in the city last month.
An earlier report from the Police Regional Office 12’s intelligence division noted that the kidnappers had planned to launch bomb attacks and kidnappings here and in nearby South Cotabato province as a diversionary tactic for the “rescue†plot.
“All our units are in place and we have implemented some preventive and target-hardening measures to preempt any planned attacks here,†Train said.
