The local police reported that the crime rate in this town during the first eight months of this year went down by 50 percent compared to the same period last year.
Chief Insp. Paul Gamido, local police chief, said there were only 22 crimes recorded from January to August 2012 as against 40 crimes in the same period of 2011.
As this developed, Senior Supt. Rwin Pagkalinawan, newly-installed Pampanga provincial police director officer-in-charge, asked his men not to be complacent, saying that while the population increases, there is a tendency that crimes also rise.
At present, the population of San Simon town is approximately 50,000.
Pagkalinawan also noted the illegal drugs activities wherein shabu remains the town’s number one problem.
This is usually the root cause of different crimes in the town, he said.
